Seek Immediate Medical Attention or Call 911 if a Mother:
- Has thoughts of harming herself
- Has thoughts of harming her baby
- Experiences hallucinations (seeing or hearing things others do not)
- Experiences delusions or paranoia
- Appears confused, disoriented, or disconnected from reality
- Is unable to care for herself or her infant safely
Postpartum Psychosis Is a Medical Emergency
Symptoms may include:
- Severe confusion
- Extreme mood swings
- Delusions
- Hallucinations
- Agitation
- Insomnia
- Paranoia
Immediate evaluation in an emergency department is recommended.
